About Us
The most-washed thing you own
Count it up. A pair of socks goes on, gets worn for a full day, and goes straight in the wash. Repeat twice a week and that's a hundred cycles a year — more than any shirt, jumper or pair of trousers you own.
Nothing else in your wardrobe gets treated that badly.
Which is why socks fail in a way other clothing doesn't. It isn't dramatic. The elastic slackens, the sole thins where you push off, the heel goes translucent, and one morning you notice a pair you bought six months ago is already in the bin pile.
Most people accept that as normal. It isn't — it's a function of the yarn, and it's predictable before you buy.
What actually survives a hundred washes
Yarn quality, specifically staple length. Long-staple cotton has fewer loose fibre ends, so it pills less, thins more slowly and holds its shape. Short-staple cotton is cheaper, feels almost identical new, and starts shedding within weeks. You can't see the difference in a photograph; you can read it in the specification.
How much elastane, and where. Too little and the cuff slides down by lunchtime. Too much and it grips, leaves a ring, and degrades faster in hot washes. The right amount in the right place is the difference between a sock you forget about and one you're aware of all day.
Reinforcement at the heel and toe. These are the two points that wear through first, and reinforcing them costs the manufacturer very little. Whether they bothered tells you most of what you need to know about the rest of the sock.
A flat toe seam. Barely noticeable when it's done well. Irritating for eight hours when it isn't.
That's what we read before we look at the picture. It's an unglamorous way to buy stock and the only one that predicts how a pair will be doing in month six.
What we don't claim
Our socks aren't medical devices. They aren't intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent anything. Where a product offers graduated compression, we state the compression level and leave the clinical judgement to people qualified to make it.
If you have a circulatory condition, diabetes or another clinical need, speak to a healthcare professional before choosing compression wear.
What we don't do
Chase trends. Nobody's wardrobe has ever been improved by a fashionable sock.
Inflate prices to discount them. The price is the price. It doesn't go up in October so it can come down in November.
Overclaim. A pair of socks won't change your life. What good socks do is quieter — you stop noticing your feet. No pulling them up on the stairs, no bunching at the toe, no relief at taking them off.
That's a low bar in theory and a surprisingly high one in practice.
The problem with buying socks online
You can't try them on. And you can't send them back once you have — they're a hygiene product, and no retailer can return an opened pack to stock.
Which leaves you guessing on size, and stuck if you guess wrong.
So we took the guessing out. With our 60-Day Fit Guarantee you can wear them and wash them. If the fit still isn't right within 60 days, email us your order number and the size you need — we send a replacement size free of charge and you keep the original pair. Nothing to return, no postage to pay, no photographs required.
Unopened and changed your mind? You have 30 days for a full refund, including the delivery cost. That's more than the law requires.
Ask us first
Not sure which size to take, or whether a pair suits work boots rather than trainers?
Email us. Tell us your shoe size and the brand you usually buy, and we'll tell you honestly which way to go — including when you're on the boundary and should size up.
Free UK delivery. Sixty days to get the fit right.
